Absolutely not! This is a common misconception. Roughly 18% of our student body is not Catholic and represents a diverse cross-section of belief systems which enriches our school community. Regardless of religious affiliation, all our families have one thing in common: they are seeking a faith-based education for their children that educates the whole child, spiritually, academically and socially in a safe, respectful and kind learning environment.

We welcome families of all religious and cultural backgrounds. The expectation is that all students attend and respectfully participate in all-school Masses, Lenten and Advent Services, all-school Rosary, prayer and grace before all meals and snacks. All children are required to take Religion as part of the curriculum.

Students in Kindergarten to Grade 8 are required to wear school and gym uniforms. Our school uniform supplier is Tommy Hilfiger, and our gym uniforms can be purchased from Gob Shop in Warren. Preschool students are not required to wear a uniform.

No. Approximately 20% of our student body comes from Barrington. Our students come from 15 surrounding communities, mainly East Providence, Bristol, Warren, Barrington and surrounding Massachusetts towns.

Yes. Need-based financial aid for students in grades K-8 is available through the Diocese of Providence. Applications are available beginning in the fall but will not be complete until you submit your taxes for the year. We use FACTS for aid applications.

If you are a member of a Catholic parish that does not have a school, you should ask your Pastor for assistance. They are required to consider your request.

Roughly 60% of our graduates go to Catholic high schools.

Absolutely. We depend on our families to help in a variety of ways: participation in our vibrant PTO, Room Parents, Lunch Monitors, Field Trip Chaperones etc.

Yes. We welcome grandparents who want volunteer and give back to the SLS. The only requirement to volunteer is a BCI (Background Criminal Investigation) check. This is a simple process and all paperwork can be requested from the main office.

Yes. We have a vibrant and active PTO with a wide variety of committees with many opportunities to serve. Our PTO, one of our biggest cheerleaders, works hard all year to raise funds for enrichment activities, trips and school enhancements to be enjoyed by our entire school community.  They also host community events, family events and outings for parents to meet each other. 

Tuition for Kindergarten to grade 8 and our Preschool are listed in our Tuition section of our website under Admissions.

Tuition for Preschool is varied depending on how many days the child attends. Financial aid is not provided for preschool students.

No. We offer several payment plans: one full payment or 2,4 or 10 equal monthly payments. All tuition is paid through FACTS.

Yes. We provide each student with their own device for the school year. Grades K-2 are issued tablets and grades 3-8 use Chromebooks. All families must sign the Responsible Use Policy and pay the Technology Fee each year. Families are responsible for damage to school issued devices.

Yes. There is a registration fee of $100 payable in March when you register for the next year. There is also a Book Fee, Middle School Fee, Technology Fee and Graduation Events Fee for 8th graders. See Admissions and Tuition on our website. 

No, we do not offer discounts for multiple children who attend in a family.

Yes. Our mission is rooted in service to our school and surrounding communities. We pride ourselves on helping others as part of our faith. Our Middle School students are required to commit to a certain amount of complete service hours each year. Each month we have 1-2 collections for those in need and are able to donate items to local food pantries, shelters and schools that request our support. 

Yes. We feel strongly about the importance of supplementing what is learned in the classroom with enrichment opportunities both in and out of the classroom. SLS provides several fields trips with the support of the PTO each year. Some include, Barrington Farm School, Plymouth Plantation, Four Town Farm, RI State House, Mystic Aquarium, Roger Williams Zoo, Buttonwoods Zoo, Boston Museum of Science, Save the Bay, Trinity Rep, Providence Performing Arts Center, etc.

Our school is a professional learning community where our staff collaborates with one another on a daily basis to provide a cohesive, supportive and rigorous learning environment. Professional Development is provided to ensure the latest teaching and learning strategies are used in the classroom. 

The SLS Compass Program. This unique program was established at SLS 5 years ago to support classroom teachers in their effort to guide and teach every student, providing support and enrichment to helps students reach success. This personalized instruction ensures that students remain challenged and receive the support they need to effectively access a Catholic education.

Yes all students from Preschool – grade 8 participate in PE. Movement and exercise is crucial for a child’s development. Depending on the age of the child, PE is offered 1-2 times per week.  Grades 3-8 will also participate in health class. PE is held in the gym, on the blacktop or in our field.

Yes. We belong to CAL (Catholic Athletic League) and participate in competitive competitions for Cross Country, Basketball, Soccer in grades 3-8.

Yes. We offer a wide variety of clubs and activities that include Band, Chess, Coding, Robotics, the School Musical, Homework Club, Math Club, Sandwich Club, Student Council, Yearbook, and Cheerleading.  We are also a member of the Catholic Athletic League, offering competitive sports for grades 3-8 in Cross Country, Soccer and Basketball.

Our rigorous curriculum is designed to successfully prepare our students for high school and beyond. We are a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) Certified school where students engage in their learning and have the opportunity to think critically through inquiry and exploration. We use the common core standards adapted by the Archdiocese of Hartford. For Science the NGSS are used.

Yes. Religion is taught in all grades. In addition, we open the day with prayer and say Grace before and after meals and snacks.

Yes. We teach Spanish to all students in preschool through grade 8.

Yes. We have one all-school Mass per month. In addition, we make Reconciliation available at certain times during the year. Students in Grade 2 make their First Reconciliation and First Communion together.
