Athletics
Our student body is extremely active in athletics. This varied and active life both inside and outside of St. Luke’s ties into our philosophy on athletics.
At St. Luke’s School our physical education program includes varied instruction that promotes lifelong physical fitness and activity. Our emphasis on organized sports and activities fosters and encourages students to learn discipline, play as a team, and embrace physical movement that will last a lifetime.
We have a vibrant and active physical education program that takes place on our field as often as possible. The school year is divided into many age-appropriate PE ‘units’, each of which emphasize developing a particular athletic skill, the importance of teamwork, endurance, and hand-eye coordination in both individual and team sports.
Competitive Athletics
St. Luke’s School is a member of the Catholic Athletic League (CAL) for competitive athletics in Rhode Island. We currently field teams (grades 4 and 5 and grades 6-8) in Cross Country, Basketball, Soccer and Volleyball. Some of the teams are co-ed and are designed to be fun for all participants. In 2020 our co-ed middle school soccer team won the state championship!
St. Luke’s coaches are usually parents of current students and are trained and certified through CAL, background checked and certified in first aid. This is another great opportunity to get involved in our school community!
Extracurricular Athletics
We are constantly looking for ways to introduce our younger students to athletics in grades K-3. The programs for the younger students become a feeder for our competitive teams in the upper grades. Just a few of the popular activities for this age group are the running club, basketball clinics, yoga, karate, and other contests with prizes from our Spirit Store to support physical activity.
